The Power of the Subconscious Mind
Mind Power Secrets - Lesson One
Have you ever read something that could make your life better,
and then never put it to use? Most of us have done this. We read
a book on real estate investing or speed-reading, or creating
better relationships, and then we never make an offer on a house
or do the scanning-exercises, or talk to the people we care about
in new ways. Or we start, but don't continue. The potential value
is lost.
How, then, do you really benefit from the new mind power techniques
that you'll learn in this course? How do you make permanent and
ongoing changes? There are four parts to the process we're going
to use. We start by getting the power of the subconscious mind
working for you.
1. You need to really believe and "feel" that you
can accomplish your goal of greater mind power.
The power of your subconscious mind will work against
you until you really expect results. I'll have more on how to
get it working for you in a moment.
2. You need to learn to motivate yourself and re-motivate
yourself as necessary.
Understanding why you want greater mind power, and imagining
the benefits is a start. In future lessons, you'll learn specific
methods of self-motivation.
3. You need to give your mind the right tools.
In this case, these tools are specific tricks and techniques
for clearer thinking, problem-solving, memory enhancement, and
learning skills. They also include the foods, supplements and
environmental conditions that are conducive to mind power.
4. You need to develop habits that sustain your progress.
Good habits-of-mind mean your subconscious will continue your
progress even when your motivation is low. Good habits are crucial.
I'll cover dozens of ways to boost your brainpower, but it's
your habits that will ultimately make you more powerful.
Can You Increase Your Mind Power?
(You have to believe so.)
Checkmate in four moves, the book said. I set up the pieces
on my board, and then I looked until I found it. Of course I
did, since I knew it was there to be found.
I love chess puzzles, but I used to think those elegant solutions
found in books were not often possible in real games, since for
the sake of a puzzle the author is allowed to set up unique positions
that might not occur in reality. Then it occurred to me that
they are sometimes there, but that without the expectation
of finding them, I - and other chess players - settle for less
worthy moves. Now I find them more often - because I look!
The looking causes more finding, and the finding creates belief.
The stronger the belief, the more you find what you are looking
for. It's a "virtuous cycle" that can even start with
complete skepticism - as long as you look.
What you look for, you find, and this will change your
mind.
How many green cars are out there? Watch for green cars for
three days, and I guarantee it will seem like there are more
than you previously would have guesses. When I bought a conversion
van I began to see vans all over. Maybe you've had a similar
experience. Now apply this phenomenon to your pursuit of greater
mind power.
This Week's Assignment
Find evidence. Point out your problem-solving successes to
yourself, and notice when you make a good decision or have a
good idea. Telling yourself you're intelligent may help, but
evidence is more convincing than affirmation. Look,
and you'll find examples of progress. Focus on these, remember
them, and let this evidence convince you that you can have
greater mind power. Then the power of your subconscious mind
will start to work towards that goal.
Assignment: Before next week's lesson, write down four
or more instances where you noticed your mind working well, especially
if it was an improvement in some way.
(And by the way... Do these "assignments" and you
will see results. Just reading isn't any more likely to
work than having someone explain how to ride a bike and then
thinking that knowledge will make you able to jump on and peddle
away skillfully.)
Next Lesson: Brainpower tricks. Seeing
results now will get you motivated to move to the next
level.
